Fall Foundation:How to Slay no matter the Season!

Fall beauty means more coverage, more moisture, and more contour! When I think of fall makeup looks the desire to truly be #teamoverthetop and #teamoverdressed is in full swing. In this post, I’m going to share with you my foundation routine and how you can make your beauty game even better.

1.More  Coverage

So in the summer I typically go very bare-faced to a light BB cream. I fell in love with the Bare Minerals BB cream this summer as it gave just enough coverage but stayed light. In the fall and winter months, I opt for full coverage foundations as I won’t get ice cream face. My go-to products at the moment are Black Opal Foundation sticks and Black Opal Total Coverage Concealers. If I’m really trying to put on I will use a mixture of both. For lighter days I will use the concealer to spot my areas that I want to hide and set with my RCMA Colorless Powder.

The results are below which is a perfect chocolate palette. I enjoy the look of full coverage as well since it just looks prettier to me. Everyone is different and that is key to knowing your self in the beauty world. I could rock a heavy full face to nothing but moisturizer and be happy.

2. More Moisture Please

So my skin over the years has developed into this very weird bougie creature that likes to be combo-dry. It can be excessively oily, which lets me know I need to hydrate more from within and also make sure I use products that will have added moisture that lasts. I really love the Clinique Moisture Surge cream and Supercharged Concentrate. These products make my skin so supple and moisture which is needed when you rock full coverage foundations. Nothing is worse than seeing dry, flaky skin under cream foundation.

The need for exfoliation is important in the fall and winter months as well. This allows those moisture-boosting products to actually be able to penetrate. My go-to scrubs are by none other than Minimo. Their Turmeric Scrub and Black Charcoal scrubs help my skin stay soft and ready to take in all the goodness.

3. More Contour

So with a full coverage foundation, you must add some structure to your life honey. I love using my Black Opal Foundation stick to contour and chisel my face. You can fake cheekbones and make the nose of your dreams for a few hours. The key to having a perfect contour is using colors that aren’t too warm and making sure to blend baby blend. This is the one time when using shade can be helpful. Look for contour colors that are more neutral and with a bit of a greyish tone.

Make sure you blend that baby out well as you don’t want to look like someone smacked you.

Now go forth and be the fairest of them all this Fall!

The Ultimate High-class Experience: Dîner en Blanc 2017

diner en blanc dallas tx 2017

A few weeks ago, I got the opportunity to attend the Dîner en Blanc  Dallas which I was hosted by Lincoln Motor Company. It was a very much an experience outside of my element as one had to wear all white and be outside. White is a color I never wear—hello foundation transfer and being outdoors, well is definitely something I tend not to do especially while engaging in a nice dinner.

I made a beauty mission impossible move by finding an outfit while in the backwoods of Arkansas. I was invited out within days of the event and made it happen. To my surprise, I  was able to locate a quick inexpensive dress from Rainbow that was on clearance just waiting for me and shoes for under 50 bucks.  I also made a mad dash to be ready after finding out my car was in need of the ER.

It was a beautiful sight seeing so many people dressed to the nines in all white and enjoying what I like to call an adult picnic. The concept of Dîner en Blanc started back 30 years ago in Paris. It was a very high-class event which entails one to bring their own picnic items that must be pristine and all white. Even the attire must be of the best levels possible with creativity yet must still err on the side of elegance.

The ambiance that Lincoln provided was elegant that included an upper echelon menu and beautiful décor. I enjoyed being swept off in a Lincoln MKX to the secret site, which happened to be one of Dallas’s most enchanting outdoor wonders, the Dallas Arboretum. Instead of being in hyper blogger mode, I allowed myself to enjoy the beauty of the event.diner en blanc dallas 2017 diner en blanc dallas tx 2017

It’s always a gift and a pleasure to attend such events as it allows me to engage in what my city has to offer. After a hard week of travel and having to put my car on life support, this allowed me to come out of comfort zone and relish in feeling pretty and being around pretty energy. Thank you, Lincoln Motor Company and Dîner en Blanc!

Plus Size Fall Professional Fashion

It’s a wonderful time to break out more layers and make the best time of the year be great. Your wardrobe for the fall doesn’t have to cost an arm and leg.I adore going to thrift stores ] in the summer in order to find the cute nice pieces for my fall wardrobe update. The best time to start looking for fall or for the next season is the start towards the end of the season you’re in. To find dope pieces I tend to go when most people are doing their season wardrobe overhaul. This means I can get some amazing pieces and be prepared for another next season. I enjoy having a lot to chose from when shopping. I got the best thrift coat in the middle of July.

These 3 looks I curated, are all from my love of thrifting while I travel. Being in small towns I often am able to pick up nice pieces because well small town folks don’t always have fashion.

Look 1 Plaid Passion

I pulled this look straight of the rack, the thrift store racks! I got both items recently while traveling in backwoods Ohio. Sometimes the kids don’t know what treasure they have. I love plaids and old school blouses. The blouse has a nice bow tie detail and puffy shoulders. The plaid is a bit different as such a different mixture of colors. I think this is one of my fav looks. attractive black woman in black shirt and plaid skirt

Look 2 Polka Dots Make me Happy

I love dresses if you can’t tell from my last post. I feel so hyper-femme in them. I will tell you a secret, growing up I was and still am a tomboy. I never wore dressed growing up as pants were the only thing I felt comfortable in. Now I can’t get enough. I wear this dress often in the winter as its long sleeve and it has pockets. It’s a New York and Co dress that I picked up from one of my fav places, Goodwill. When you see a 2.99 dress I mean come on.  black woman in new york and co polka dot dress plus size

Look 3 Military and Navy

I love green and its many shades. For fall I enjoy mixing it up a bit.I picked this polka dot skirt up recently and thought it can be mixed into the fall rotation. Hunter green will be a hot color this fall and super melanin friendly!

Corporate Beat: Fall makeup look with Smashbox

black woman wearing makeup

Hello, beauties! Fall is here and this kid is so excited. Fall makeup is drama and power. I love it so much as I can do all the layers and extra’s that I give up in the summer as I live in Texas. In this look, I’m giving you corporate beat for fall. Being in a corporate role, you can’t give the kids too much but I will help you spoon feed them just enough.

Makeup in the office doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I have worked in a variety of environments and have seen the struggle. Some women go way too heavy and some go bare face altogether. Neither is a great thing as studies have shown, women who don’t wear makeup appear to be unpolished at the office. On the opposite side of the coin, women who wear too much makeup aren’t taken as seriously. When it comes to your beauty life, you should wear what feels comfortable to you but know there is always an image to be upheld.

Makeup and beauty in this day and age are still in the dark ages in the corporate world. I feel you should be able to wear what you want without judgment. Working in more rigid environments, I have learned how to alter my image to find the flow.  Your look should fit your role that you want to be in.  However, make your look reflect who you are, just the more refined version of you.

If you would wear something to a club, it’s a safe bet you shouldn’t wear it to the office. The look I created can give you balance as it gives you just the right amount of drama.

Fitness in the Fall: Plus Size Fitness Tips

Welcome to the most wonderful time of the year: Fall! As the weather starts to change and your wardrobe, don’t neglect your fitness goals. It’s really easy to hide behind bulky sweaters and layers. Being healthy is something you should be doing year around. If you had to run for your life in the cold of winter can you do so? Keeping yourself fit and healthy will help you no matter the time. In the colder months, depression and other mental disorders are more prone because of the lack of sun. So working out will help you stay balanced and you won’t have to do a mad dash when spring comes.

I want to give you 3 thoughts about health and fitness, especially for my plus beauties. You don’t have to constantly be on a yo-yo diet or cycle of losing weight for special events if you always make sure you stay healthy.

1.Healthy looks different on Everyone!

There isn’t a one size fits all to the way fitness looks. Many think you have to have a 6 pack and ripped arms and legs to say your fit. That is only just one of many ways it may look. Health to me means you activities for daily living aren’t impacted by your inability to do them. For example, if you can get in and out of the shower by yourself or you’re able to squat and pick it back up without assistance. In the field I work in, I have encountered many that aren’t able. If you want to go hang gliding or jump out of a helicopter if you aren’t able to do those things then that can be a goal to push your fitness forward.

It’s really easy to look at images on the gram and think man I want that body, but everyone is different. People of all sizes can be healthy and do a wide variety of sports and other actives. I am a lover of indoor cycle and can outpace a lot of people who are smaller. Just because someone looks a certain way doesn’t mean you can tell if they are healthy or not. Create your own vision of what healthy is for you and move. Need ideas on how to make your brand of healthy I share info in this post.

2. Make time for what’s important

It’s easy to get caught up in this thing called life and not workout. If you have other life goals, ensure you are working out at least 3 times a week in order to reach them.  As someone who travels as much as I do, it’s really hard sometimes to go to the gym. So if I’m particularly done with seeing people for the day I often bring workout videos with me and workout right in my room. Fitness has to be seen as more than just getting cute for special occasions such as summer and weddings. If you are always ready you never have to get ready.

Find something that you really enjoy doing 3 times a week that will help you build up a sweat. I adore cycle but enjoy weightlifting even more. The feeling of lifting 420 lbs on the leg press machine makes me feel bad ass. Fitness also helps you develop a certain grit that spills out into your daily life. Got a fuck boy problem, a boss that gets on your nerves, goals of starting your own business? Fitness will help with that. When you invest in yourself it just works out that it will help you for your life.Old-navy-plus-size-active-wear

3. Your competition is the woman in the mirror

I have been on the journey of losing 150lbs for a while now. I have been close but not met it. For a few years, I allowed self-pity to keep the weight on and even going to new higher amounts. It’s not until recently did I change my view about the scale. I remember in December I was going through clothes that didn’t fit. It was super embarrassing to have to give away items because I don’t believe in hanging on to things just to say I have it. Make room for better things at your current place in life. Having loads of too tight or ill-fitted clothing can mess with your confidence. Enjoy where you are right this second and as you do you will work to make yourself better.
